Kamstrup is a leading supplier within metering systems for water, electricity and distributed heating, their clients being municipal or private households. Design-People has been a partner for Kamstrup within product development for several years and have contributed to make strong usability decisions for Kamstrup, based on multiple user studies. In 2012 Kamstrup received an IF design award for the water meter MC 21, praised for its innovative design.
Through user research, several user benefits were identified and used in the making of the water meter. The combination of high quality finish and design details makes the difference and indicates the innovation of the product. The list of new features is impressive - new digital measuring system, new anti magnetic materials, free mounting angle, easy read-out and long life battery.

Kamstrup’s water meter “Multical 21” combines tech-innovation with substantial user benefits and appealing design. Among the user studies was a user group with a generally low grade of high tech skills. To create instant familiarity with the product, a classic round meter design was chosen; bringing forth relatability of mechanical meters and at the same time compressing new metering technologies and features like remote metering into a compact product. To improve ergonomics, Multical 21 can be mounted in user-friendly angles, making read-out more easy and simplifying piping.
